A HUGE haul of wine, cigarettes and tobacco have been seized in Kincardine after a joint operation by Fife police and HM Revenue and Customs.

Following information from local residents on Sunday, the officers swooped as part of an operation to crack down on youth disorder and anti-social behaviour.

And at a premises in the village, they confiscated 752 litres of wine, 1118 packets of cigarettes and 24kg of hand-rolling tobacco.

The goods are believed to be counterfeit and enquiries are continuing.

Sergeant Darren Stewart said, "We are currently tackling the youth disorder and anti-social behaviour in Kincardine as it has been identified as a policing priority by local residents through the community engagement meeting.

"We are actively encouraging residents to give us information on crime that is affecting them and their community."

Ron Barrie, of HMRC said, "HM Revenue and Customs work closely with our partner agencies to tackle alcohol and tobacco fraud at all points of the illegal supply chain, from smuggling and storage through to final sale.

"The unregulated sale of illegal cigarettes, tobacco and alcohol is not a victimless or harmless crime."
