NHS Fife have confirmed that three children in the region have been diagnosed with measles.

Two of the children have now been discharged from Forth Park Hospital in Kirkcaldy and it is thought likely that these two cases are linked.

However, these children could also have contracted measles from completely separate sources.

A third child, who is a contact of one of the first two cases, also has confirmed measles.

Parents, friends, relatives and staff who have been in contact with any of the three cases are being traced and those found to have no immunity to measles are being offered MMR immunisation.

NHS Fife stated there are no specific concerns for members of the public or for people attending Forth Park Hospital.

However, the health board stated that the diagnosis was a reminder that measles is an illness which still circulates throughout Scotland, and parents are encouraged to take-up the offer when they receive their MMR vaccine letter.

Deputy Director of Public Health for NHS Fife, Dr Margaret Hannah, said, "Measles can be an unpleasant illness and on occasion can be fatal. These three cases are a reminder that it has not gone away.

"I would advise parents to ensure their children are fully up to date with the MMR jab as it will protect their children against three nasty infections."
