Major roadworks in Rosyth
BUSES serving Rosyth will be diverted as roadworks totalling £320,000 get underway on one of the town's busiest arteries this weekend.
Bear Scotland will begin resurfacing work on Saturday on the A985 between the Admiralty Road roundabout and King's Road roundabout.
Work is expected to take two weeks, and will last between 8am and 7pm every day.
The roundabout at Rosyth Crossroads will be closed this weekend, and between 1st and 5th August Admiralty Road will be closed eastbound between King's Road and Queensferry Road.
From 8th to 12th August Admiralty Road will be closed between Queensferry Road and the A90/M90 junction.
Eastbound M90 traffic will be diverted via King's Road and the A823. Local traffic will be diverted via Castle Road, Ferry Toll Road, Castlandhill Road and the A90. Westbound traffic will not be affected.
All buses serving Rosyth have been diverted and service updates are available online at www.stagecoachbus.com.
Ian Stewart, BEAR Scotland's south-east unit representative, said: "The surface of the road, which carries 14,000 vehicles per day, is worn out and needs to be replaced.
"These works are a combination of two schemes, which are being carried out together to minimise disruption to the public - they have been planned over a short period to minimise delays.
"We would however encourage motorists to plan their journeys in advance where possible."

Report commentI can't remember there being many problems with this section of the A985. There is more need to deal with the bad condition of sections of Queensferry road, and the condition of Park Road is dreadful! When are those roads being repaired?

Report commentas a rosyth resident and knowing admiralty road quite well am amazed at why it needed a complete overhauling -- bearing in mind queensferry road has had its speed bumps removed and now seems the traffic calming may never be re- installed.
all i can think of it is for the increase in hgv `s traffic for the impending container ship terminal at the dockyard or maybe as the previous writer said maybe it is to accomadate the increase of army vehicles etc.
spoke to our local councillor and he was mystified as to why the road needed replacing maybe tis bear off loading their money saved from the tolls at the forth bridge.

Report commentI'm also a Rosyth resident and like many others I fail to see the need for resurfacing Admiralty Road as well. There's many other side roads, some are main bus routes (Park Road, Ridley Drive etc) that are in an atrocious condition and desperately require resurfacing.
Having recently driven down Parkside Street (at the corner of Harley Street) there's a pot hole that is just waiting on an insurance claim from a wrecked alloy wheel. I was of the understanding that our ever increasing Road Tax is partially used to pay for the maintenance of our roads? Why then, do we not get consulted when it comes down to which specific area is to be rejuvenated? Perhaps it makes more sense to simply cause as much inconvenience as possible by throwing money away on needless repairs and unnecessary speed control measures that are torn up a few years later!
* On a side note, I wonder given the time these speed control measures were in place along Queensferry Road what (if any) evidence there is to prove they were actually effective in their purpose?

Report commentWhat a waste of money, throw some saw dust at it and build a road around the area so people don't need to go through or look at the dump that Rosyth has become.

Report commentOoh NHJan take it you don't come from Rosyth. What an insulting comment to make. Dunfermline, Limekilns, Crombie, Crossford all have their cr***y areas as well. It takes more than a few strategically places planters with seasonal flowers to make an area 'nice'.
Rosyth may have become a bit delapidated in the past few years with job losses etc but there's no need to be so derogatory. You want to try it some time I'm sure the Goth would put you up for a week or so.

Report commentWhat muppet at the council decided it would be a good idea to close the A985 going out of Rosyth to Inverkeithing, at the same time Inverkeithing High Street is closed for the Lamas Fair???????
So to get to Dalgety Bay from Rosyth tonight, had to go via the link road up by the Dunfermline Building Society, and then down onto the road that brings you out at the junction north of Inverkeiting.
God help anyone in Rosyth that wants to go to Dalgety Bay, Aberdour or further on a bus tonight!

Report commentCan't think why anyone would complain at getting a major artery like Admiralty Road properly resurfaced. Do all the complainers really believe that it's not necessary, or that it can be done without closing part of the road to permit the work to be done? I only wish that the other 99% of Fife's roads could be repaired as well. As it is though, after umpteen years of a zero maintenance policy, it seems certain that our county's roads will continue to disintegrate until they are impassable.

Report commentWould just like to be clear that the A985 is not under council ownership.
There are other areas in Rosyth that badly need attention that the council need to address but the A985 is maintained by Bear. It is an "A" road, all other roads mentioned in other posts are not main arterial routes.
I agree that the A985 did not appear to be in a bad way but there may have been underlying problems and before it fails completely and damages our cars like the council roads I for one am glad they are doing it now.
Much better than the councils "wait until it fails and causes havoc" approach!
