Bomb disposal experts called after grenade found in Dunfermline
BOMB disposal experts raced to Dunfermline on Friday after being told a GRENADE had been found.
The incident happened on Carnock Road, leading to several streets being closed.
Disposal experts soon confirmed it was a training grenade that posed no threat to the public.
The item is believed to have been found by a member of the public in a garden.
A police spokesperson said, "Someone reported what they thought was a grenade this morning.
"Some streets were closed and buses were diverted for a short time, just as a precaution.
"It was a test or safety grenade and there was no risk to anyone at any time."
Councillor David Mogg, who stays near Carnock Road, said, "It would be interesting to find out what vintage the training grenade was - there were a lot of them about in the Second World War.
"I know this because my dad was a Second World War veteran and we used to have one on the mantelpiece."

Report commentI remember when a grenade went off in Kirkcaldy, police estimated it caused a million pounds worth of improvements.
