Major speed restrictions for M90
RESTRICTIONS will be installed along various West Fife roads from tomorrow (Friday) as part of work on the new Forth Replacement Crossing (FRC).
Average speed cameras and 40mph limits are the first of a number of traffic management measures which will be put in on the M90/A90, A92 and A823 (motorway), Transport Scotland announced this week.
The restrictions will be implemented between Halbeath and the Forth Road Bridge, and between Pitreavie roundabout and the M90.
The hard shoulders on the M90 between Halbeath and Admiralty junctions will be closed in both directions, and a mandatory 40mph speed limit will be in place throughout the extent of the traffic management scheme.
This will be enforced by average speed cameras, which measure a vehicle's average speed from point to point along a length of the route, using automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) to identify vehicles that exceed the 40mph limit.
Steven Brown, roads and infrastructure manager for Transport Scotland's FRC Employers Delivery Team, said, "This traffic management is an essential part of minimising the FRC project's construction impact on journey times and public safety.
"These works are necessary for the installation of the Intelligent Transport System gantries that will be a vital part of the wider FRC scheme.
"The average speed cameras in use on this part of the project will help preserve the safety of the travelling public and contractors working on the site, as well as helping to smooth the flow of traffic through the scheme."

Report commentDon't know, but the ones at the Aberdour Road bridge are close enough that you could fling a cover over them and really $crew up the ANPR sensor!

Report commentWelcome to Fife, Scotland's most motorist - hostile county. What with the speed bumps every five yards and now tracker cameras it's a wonder we have any visitors left.

Report commentWelcome to Fife, the most Motorist - hating county in Scotland. I can understand the cameras in the Immediate area of work - but all the way to Kelty? Ridiculously over zealous as usual. Between the speed bumps every five feet and now the tracker cameras and unreasonably low speed limits it's amazing anyone wants to visit Fife in a car anymore.
