A WOMAN choked on a tooth as she tucked into a meat 'n veg pie.

Maryka Field (23) vomited after making the discovery, as partner Kirstie Morrison (20) looked on in horror.

The incident happened at the couple's James Street flat in Dunfermline on Friday after they claim to have bought the Fray Bentos tinned Minced Beef & Vegetable Pie at the nearby Poundland store, Kingsgate.

Maryka said, "I was sitting quite happily eating away, then I started choking and couldn't catch my breath.

"I eventually managed to get this big, solid lump out. I put my plate down, struggled up and ran to the bathroom to be sick.

"Kirstie washed it and realised it was a tooth."

Kirstie had made the dinner of pie, baby potatoes and sweetcorn as a treat for Maryka, who was looking forward to her first square meal after returning from stomach surgery at Queen Margaret Hospital, Dunfermline.

Kirstie said, "We were sitting having our tea and she started choking. I asked what was wrong and she coughed up the tooth.

"At that point we didn't know it was a tooth.

"I took it into the bathroom, washed it and it looked like an animal's tooth. It's absolutely vile. She was sick after it and wouldn't eat the rest of her tea."

She added, "I was more angry than anything.

"You read about these things in the papers but don't expect it to happen to you."

The Fray Bentos brand was purchased recently by Baxters from Princes Limited. Manufacturing of Fray Bentos products will transfer over the next year from Princes' Long Sutton plant in East Anglia to Baxters' production facility in Fochabers in Moray.

For that reason, both companies were unwilling to take responsibility for the find and made no comment when they were contacted by the Press.

A Poundland spokesperson said, "Poundland is currently investigating this matter and working with the supplier to hopefully resolve this issue as quickly as possible."
