A Crossgates woman fought off a mugger who tried to snatch her handbag in the middle of the street in broad daylight.

Fife police are appealing for witnesses in connection with the incident, which happened around 11am on Tuesday at Springhill Brae, Crossgates.

A struggle ensued and the robber left empty handed. The would-be thief is described as a woman, about 30 years of age and of average height. She had short, blonde hair and was wearing a cream coloured jacket.

Detective Sergeant Jimmy Adamson said, "The woman was not injured but was very upset by the incident and I would ask that anyone with information please contact Cowdenbeath Police Station by calling 0845 600 5702 or by calling Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."
