Vote for your greatest 30 pars players of all time
VOTES are pouring in for the greatest ever Pars players with fans telling the Press about their favourites.
Last week, we launched a search for the top 30 to have graced East End Park and it's already proving a hot topic among fans.
There are obviously many who know their history or have long memories with 1950s and 1960s stars getting the nod alongside more modern-day servants.
Daniel Milligan, of Rosyth, nominated Charlie Dickson (pictured) and described him as "Pars legend and top goalscorer ever!".
On the website - www.dunfermlinepress.com - 'Jock386' wrote, "I nominate Alex Smith, not the fastest player the Pars ever had but where there was work to be done he was in the thick of it.
"You mentioned players who had the attitude of 'they shall not pass' and Harry Colville should be not only be mentioned but tops that category."
'Boom' was of a similar opinion and explained, "The man who changed us from being B Division regulars with little ambition into challengers at the top of the Scottish game and beyond was Harry Colville.
"Harry was supposedly over the hill when he arrived but he brought a toughness, a determination we had lacked and he laid the foundation for the magical years that followed.
"My man for top of the list. Alex Smith next and then Charlie Dickson."
A gentleman on and off the pitch, the sadly departed Dr Hugh Whyte received votes from 'Uncle Shuggy' who wrote, "My uncle Shuggy. Hugh Whyte.
"He made 364 first team appearances in league and cup games, the all-time record for a Dunfermline goalkeeper.
"He also had 116 shut-outs, again an all-time club record."
'Jacks18rodger' agreed, adding, "Hugh Whyte, who dedicated his life on and off the pitch to the Pars. A great family man as well."
'Porty81' went back to the 90s for his greatest Par, stating, "It's got to be Stewart Petrie for me, his direct style of play and never-say-die attitude won me over, not to mention his goals. There's only one Stewart Petrie!! Gaun the Pars!"
All-round nice guy Hamish French, the current under-19s coach at the Pars, has a fan in E Clark from Dunfermline who said he "worked hard on the field and in the community".
'Tottihunter' had happy memories of a Hungarian and went online to say, "I nominate Istvan Kozma, who could forget that hat-trick against St Mirren?" while 'Jm59rb' was short and to the point, "Roy Barry - no contest."
Joe Anderson joined the debate on the Press' Facebook page and opted for Charlie Dickson and John Lunn, two more favourites from the 1960s.
You can have your say on the Top 30 Pars players of all time by voting for as many players you like, as many times as you like.
