THE people of Abbeyview have been left "outraged" after callous thieves ransacked the area's new £10,000 youth support project.

Devastated organisers of the Abbeyview Project, located in Allan Crescent, have had to cancel plans to launch a new evening service for kids this week after the robbers struck.

The thieves made off with two wide screen televisions, an X-Box and Kinect, as well as smashing a hole through an internal wall.

Centre manager Jackie Walls said, "We have had to cancel the launch opening for kids. It's had a huge impact on the project, the staff and the community as well.

"The community are outraged and the amount of support we've had has been unbelievable.

"We have no idea who or why people would do this. We're trying to help people and then somebody does something like this. It beggars belief."

The project, which received a £10,000 Big Lottery Fund grant, provides training, advice and support to help local people into work, and is particularly aimed at young people.

Staff assist with CVs, application forms and interview skills, and the centre provides stationery, stamps and newspapers, as well as twice-weekly visits by Carnegie College to deliver educational skills.

Jackie continued, "We've got to soldier on as there's a desperate need for what we're doing. We have tried to organise a football team and the amount of kids that we've had turn up to be part of the team has been unbelievable.

"We are trying to break down barriers and the emotional impact this break-in has had on the football team was incredible. It really did knock them for six as we did not expect this.

"The amount of people we're helping with CVs is huge. We helped one 16-year-old girl get the nursery job she wanted to do and the training she needed.

"We've only been open nine weeks and for this to happen has been terrible. We hope to relaunch within the next few months once we get the place secure but we're probably talking about the summer holidays now."

Fife police confirmed they were investigating.
