DRIVERS are reminded to plan ahead and consider alternative travel arrangements this weekend when a major traffic management scheme will reduce the M90 to just one lane southbound, resulting in potential delays of up to two hours or more.

These weekend restrictions will be in place between 8pm tomorrow (Friday ) and 6am on Monday and the contraflow will also be in operation for the weekends of 27-30th April, 4-7th May and 11-14th May.

The works are necessary for the resurfacing of the southbound carriageway as part of the Forth Replacement Crossing project and are expected to result in significant delays.

These restrictions are in addition to those in operation on the M90 on weekdays, which has so far resulted in limited delays of up to 30 minutes.

More significant delays are expected during these weekend works as the southbound carriageway is reduced to one lane. Motorists are urged to avoid the area and use alternative routes or modes of travel.

To mitigate the impact of these works, ScotRail is providing additional capacity on 28 weekend services which cross the Forth Rail Bridge.

The train operator has also introduced its first ever off-peak season ticket between Edinburgh and Fife stations for the duration of the weekday works. The ticket - more than a third cheaper than a regular season ticket - is available until 6th May.

If travelling on this route is unavoidable at these times, motorists are advised to allow significant additional time to complete their journey or use alternative routes.

ScotRail is adding carriages to the following services:
