DUNFERMLINE people are "lovely but disloyal", according to the head of a dating website for cheaters.

The town has been named Scotland's cheating capital by Ashley Madison, an American online dating agency that helps people have affairs.

More than 33,000 Scots are signed up to the site whose motto is 'Life is short, have an affair'.

And the highest concentration come from Dunfermline.

Noel Biderman (41), the website's founder said, "I'm sure the people of Dunfermline are very nice but they are also very disloyal.

"It may come as a surprise to many that infidelity isn't restricted to the larger, more liberal cities such as Edinburgh."

Other top cheating areas in Scotland include Inverness, Aberdeen and St Andrews.

Noel added, "People who are in happy relationships are not affected at all by the presence of an Ashley Madison.

"Long before I got to Scotland affairs were happening, if I shut down the website today it would still be happening.

"Scottish society is better off having a community like Ashley Madison where everyone who goes there knows what they are getting into."

We asked Press readers on Facebook what they thought about their new naughty neighbourhood status.

Joanne Vincent posted, "People who hurt others by sleeping with others in marriage or any relationship are selfish and stupid ... just don't have a relationship ... unless it's an open one of course."

Wee Tracy posted, "Been with my lad 3.5 years and he's the only one for me!"

Nelson Kerr posted, "Wow we're first at something? Quick get it entered as an Olympic sport!"
