Women witnesses praised for helping jail rapist
Fife police have praised the brave women whose courageous testimonies helped jail a rapist for nine years.
Mohammed Ben El Hassan (35), of Masterton Road, was sent to prison after being convicted of rape and serious assault charges in Dunfermline in 2010 and 2011.
Detective Chief Inspector David McLaren, who led the investigations, said, "These women were subjected to horrific and violent attacks by El Hassan.
"I wish to pay tribute to the bravery of these women in coming forward and giving evidence which led to these convictions.
"I also wish to thank the families of both women who have supported the police investigation at all times.
"El Hassan presents a real threat to women and Fife Constabulary welcomes the fact that he will spend a significant period of time behind bars.
He added, "Such incidents are thankfully very rare in Fife where recorded violent crime was reduced by 25.8 per cent during the past year and the detection rate for serious violent crime."
