DUNFERMLINE couple Mr and Mrs Wood have won free council tax for a year in Fife Council's annual prize draw for customers who pay by direct debit.

Joy Mackenzie, service manager, benefits & council tax, said, "Paying bills like council tax by direct debit is secure and convenient - once it's set up you don't have to think about when bills are due again.

"As well as making householders' lives easier It also means the council spends less time and money processing payments, so we can concentrate on other services people need.

"Over 105,500 Fife households now pay their council tax by direct debit and anyone who does is entered in the prize draw to win free council tax for a year.

"If you haven't already signed up, please give us a call and we can set up a direct debit over the phone.

"Payments are covered by a guarantee so you would never be left out of pocket if a banking error occurred, which is very unusual."

Council tax is due in ten monthly instalments on or by the 1st of each month. If you pay by direct debit, you can choose to pay on either the 1st or the 15th
