Live journey time services for Mway drivers
DRIVERS using key routes around the central belt are to benefit from an extended journey time service.
Live journey time information will be displayed on variable message signs (VMS) along the M74, M73, M80 and M77, allowing more drivers on more routes to assess their travel plans while on the move.
This builds on the successful service launched on the M8 last August, which enabled road users to see journey times displayed in real time along the M8 and right into Edinburgh city centre.
Transport Minister Keith Brown said, "This scheme is already allowing M8 journey times to be calculated and displayed in real time for journeys or part journeys between Scotland's two biggest cities.
"By extending this service to the M73, M74, M77 and M80 we can improve journey time reliability and reduce driver frustration by providing accurate information during their journeys, allowing them to alter their routes where possible.
"This is good news for motorists who will now receive real-time updates on how long it will take them to complete journeys across the majority of Scotland's central-belt motorway network.
"This is one of several ways in which technology is being used effectively to make road travel easier for Scotland's motorists."
