A ROSYTH man who won £20,000 on live television claims it "feels like a dream".
Tahir Ali (38) appeared on ITV's long-running quiz show, 'Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?' on 9th July in a special live episode of the show.
The dad-of-five lives at home with his wife, Yasmin, and daughters Anisah (16), Zubair (14), Faiza (12), Rabia (10) and Safiya (2).
He explained that his winnings came as a "relief" for him and his family.
Tahir told the Press, "I can't believe it. To go on a game show and come home with £20,000 is unbelievable.
"When I knew I was going on the show my wife and I agreed that if I won anything above £20,000 we'd be happy.
"It is a relief because we are buliding an extension to our house so we could do with the money."
Tahir revealed it was an exciting but nervous experience for both Yasmin and himself.
"It was good to get past the first few easy questions but I was still feeling very nervous. My wife was definitely more nervous than me!
"I knew I couldn't afford to gamble so to get as far as I did was brilliant."
He correctly answered Madrid, out of the options Berlin, Paris and Dublin, as the capital city that is closest to the centre of its country to win the money.
With his winnings Tahir plans to use some of it to help finish off the extension to his house as well as giving his children a bedroom of their own.
"The girls are sharing one room so it will be good to give them their own space," said Yasmin.
The lucky couple were also full of praise for the host of the show, Chris Tarrant.
Tahir said, "He was an amazing person to meet. When he came to see us before the show he got to know me and helped to get rid of my nerves. I would like to thank him as well as all the production team for giving me this opportunity."
The quiz fan was one of more than 55,000 people who had applied for the show.
And the win led to a warm welcome from the local community and workmates at Sky.
"I had told some friends that I was going on the show and also some of my work colleagues. I knew friends and family would be watching the show and I have had some neighbours coming up to me asking about my win.
"I am really pleased that I applied for the show and now I can enjoy the money with my family."
