Inverkeithing housing meeting postponed
A PUBLIC meeting in Inverkeithing to give details of a proposed development of 400 houses at Spencerfield has been postponed.
Taylor Wimpey had planned to share their vision for the farmland on the edge of the town with local residents on Thursday 6th September.
However, a spokeswoman for the firm said the meeting will go ahead at a later, as yet unspecified, date.

Report commentI heard Jesus was originally scheduled to have been born in Inverkeithing, but they postponed it because they couldn't find three wise men and a virgin.

Report commentHow can the idea even be discussed when the primary school and local office service are already pushed to there limits. Without the proper infrastructure in place, 400 new homes would cripple the town (as if it was crippled enough already). It's the wrong time for such a development, no thanks.

Report commentI cant speak for the local offices, but the Primary school is not pushed to their limits. I disagree with the industrial scale of the planned development, 400 houses are far too many for a town of this size but a significant investment in housing in Inverkeithing needs to take place. I would question the location though, there are so many more brownfield sites that are available before we should consider developing the outskirts of the town. the first thing I can see happening is the High school loosing some of its playing fields to improve access to any proposed development of the land in question.

Report commentThe school roll is just under 300 pupils divided into 15 classrooms(roughly 20 to a class)...now if these 400 houses are built and say 50 % of these householders have primary school age children, that is a further 200 kids.(which equates to an extra 13 pupils per class) Also this is a shared building with nursery.
Now the traffic on this road is bad enough without congestion on this scale.
If Wimpy want to show they are committed to Inverkeithing.....They should buy the land in Stephens Drive and behind High Street or old primary school or land behind Hillfield and develop there first.
If Taddei can squeeze 8 houses into a small strip of land beside train station and Aberdour Castle(Lord knows how he got approval of that) then just think what he could do to these areas in question!!
What has McGarry got to say about this?.............bugger all.

Report comment@cenobite - family houses attract families. People in Duloch tend to have 2-4 children. So 400 houses are likely to mean 800-1000 children of various ages.

Report comment@cenobite. That was the problem in Duloch and why they made mistakes with schools. They made conservative guesses and made a massive underestimate and blamed the parents for having above normal fertility!

Report commentI would be interested in reading a statement in The Press from the Fife Council Director of Education setting out how the Council plans to accommodate the extra children of school age who would live in this development in the local schools. If the DEX is anything to go by, there would indeed be many young families moving in to these houses. Given that the Council now appears to have given the green light to the Hyundai redevelopment, despite it being against the structure plan, a similar definitive statement from the Director of Education regarding schools provision in that area would also be welcome.
The Press could do the public a service if it were to ask Fife Council to provide statements along those lines. If the Council do so, then they can be held to their promises if and when these houses are built. If they refuse, then the public can conclude that the Council have no realistic plans to cope and we can expect a repeat of the Masterton/Duloch/Bellyeoman fiascos. I am sorry to say that I do not think that lessons have been learned and therefore think the latter is more likely.
Like Cenobite, I would have expected the local councillor to have something to say about Spencerfield.

Report commentWho are the Fife Council planners? Do they live in this area of Fife? Why havent Local Councillors come out and spoken up for people of town? Has Fife Council done a phase1 Habitat survey of area?
I have to agree with a number of posts on here regarding developing in and around other areas of Inverkeithing first.

Report commentCome on people if you don't want this development to go through then, send in your objections! Its not hard and only takes a couple of minutes, just go to: http://savespencerfield.org/how-you-can-help/object/ & follow the instructions. I personally want to see this essential piece of farm land saved. Why don't they build on the old papermill site?? Load of interest in it, potential buyers were down there today & last weekend too!
