THE Scottish SPCA is seeking the owner of a friendly cockerel found straying in Torryburn.

Scotland's animal welfare charity rescued the large bird on Friday morning after being alerted by a resident of Craigmore Gardens.

Now named Kelloggs, the striking Buff Orpington cockerel is being cared for at the charity's Edinburgh and Lothians Animal Rescue and Rehoming Centre.

Animal Rescue Officer Bob Ward said, "Kelloggs is really fast so it took a bit of running around to safely contain him.

"The lady who contacted us said she had spotted the bird a few days earlier and had asked around the local area but was unable to find an owner.

"Kelloggs has only been with us for a few days but he's already proving to be a very friendly boy.

"He has a wound on his back which has been recently treated with an antiseptic spray suggesting he has been cared for up until now.

"He may have escaped from home but we can't rule out the possibility he has been abandoned.

"If no one comes forward for Kelloggs we'll soon be looking to find him a permanent home."

Anyone who recognises Kelloggs can call the Scottish SPCA Animal Helpline on 03000 999 999.
