Police act to book fraudsters

FIFE police have published a booklet on their website explaining how people can avoid being scammed by fraudsters.
The 48-page booklet, 'The Little Book of Big Scams', details many of the bogus methods used by criminals to part people from their money, and in some cases their identity.
Detective Superintendent Colin Beattie said, "The booklet outlines how the frauds work, and also gives real-life examples of how people have been taken in by the criminals who carry out such frauds.
"As well as detailing the various frauds, such as door-to-door scams, dating and romance scams, banking and payment card scams and many others, the booklet gives valuable advice on how to protect yourself from fraud and what to do if you find you are a victim of scammers."
The booklet has a foreward by TV consumer rights champion Esther Rantzen and was originally produced by the Metropolitan Police as part of their drive to raise awareness and proactively prevent fraud.
