Bin collection changes set for next week
FIFE Council is preparing to roll out a new bin collection system this Monday.
Binmen will now be working longer hours, meaning that bins could be emptied anytime between 6am and 9pm.
Every household in Fife has now received an information leaflet about the changes, and a bin collection calendar explaining what their new bin collection day will be.
The Council have also been planting reminder notes on bins this week asking residents to check their new bin calendar as the day and time their bins are emptied may have changed.
The new longer working day was agreed following a review of household waste collection services earlier this year.
Households will receive the same number of bin collections as they do currently and businesses will continue to have their waste collected seven days a week.
However, by making full use of bin lorries the Council hopes to save over £800,000 of public money while preserving jobs.
Over the next few days before the new system starts, they are urging people remember to check what their new collection day is as it's likely to have changed), put bins out by 6am and leave unemptied bins out until 9pm.
You can check your new bin day and download your new bin calendar at www.fifedirect.org.uk/binchanges or by calling the Recycling Helpline on 08451 55 00 22.

Report commentIf you want to see this sort of thing really being screwed up, just take a trip to Edinburgh. They are only now introducing fortnightly bin collections, which we've had for some time with far fewer teething troubles than they seem to be experiencing. Time will tell, but this looks like a pretty well managed process to me.
