New bin collection service rolled out
FIFE's new bin collection service is being rolled out in Fife from today (Monday).
Bin workers will be working longer hours, as bins will be emptied anytime between 6am and 9pm.
Households have received an information leaflet about the changes, and a bin collection calendar explaining what the new bin collection day will be.
Fife Council leader Alex Rowley joined the teams on the first day of the new collection arrangements.
He said, "We recognise that refuse collectors make a huge contribution to public services, playing a part in everyone's life, and we have worked with them to get to this conclusion.
"These new changes in the shift systems are about making our operations as efficient as possible, keeping people in jobs and maintaining a high level of service for Fifers.
"Households will receive the same number of bin collections as they do currently and businesses will continue to have their waste collected seven days a week.
"However, by making full use of our bin lorries we can cut down on the number of lorries we need, and save over £800,000 of public money while preserving jobs."
A bin collection calendar is available online at www.fifedirect.org.uk/binchanges. It can also be requested at www.fifedirect.org.uk/bins, or call the recycling Helpline 08451 55 00 22.
Householders are reminded to have their bins out by 6am and leave unemptied bins out until 9pm.

Report commentAll ready the new bin collection has turned farcical. My bin collection day is Tuesday, several weeks ago I got my new bin calendar telling me bin collection day was changing to Wednesday and the bin men even put a note on the bin to back this up.
Today, Wednesday, the bin lorry hadn't appeared by late afternoon although one did drive into the street yesterday, Tuesday, but drove out again without stopping. When checking on the fifedirect website it says my day for collection is Monday and when I called Fife council they verified it was now a Monday, just as a refuse lorry arrived and emptied every bin that was out no matter what colour it was!
So Alex Rowley what is my bin day? Or do I just leave all 4 out all week, all year in the hope that Fife council may turn up when they feel like it?
