Cinema screens live opera!

Odeon Dunfermline's line-up of live high-definition screenings for October and November is sure to put a song on your lips.

The screenings, from the renowned New York Metropolitan Opera, is part of the Odeon's bid to bring world-class opera to audiences and features 12 performances transmitted live from the Big Apple.

'The Met: Live in HD' offering for 26th October is Verdi's Shakespearean masterpiece Otello, featuring star soprano Renee Fleming as Desdemona in the four-act tragedy.

Other highlights are composer Thomas Ades conducting a premiere of his own arrangement of The Tempest on 10th November, with baritone Simon Keenlyside starring as Prospero; Verdi's Aida on 15th December; and Wagner's Parsifal on 2nd March.

The series will run between now and 27th April, and the performances are: La Clemenza di Tito (1st Dec); Un Ballo in Maschera (8th Dec); Les Troyens (5th Jan); Maria Stuarda (19th Jan); Rigoletto (16th Feb); Francesca di Rimini (16th Mar) and Giulio Cesare (27th April).
