OBE for Andy Murray in Honours list
Published: 29 Dec 2012 00:01
Murray was given the honour for services to tennis in the Queen's New Year's Honours List, announced just after midnight tonight (Friday).
The honour caps a memorable year for Murray, who became the first British player to win a Grand Slam title since Fred Perry in 1936 when he beat Novak Djokovic in the US Open in September, and also won gold in the London Olympics and reached the Wimbledon final, finishing the year ranked No.3 in the world.
Murray and brother Jamie were regulars on the courts of Dunfermline Tennis Club in the 1990s as mum Judy was a member of the Dunfermline club.
Other honours recipients included Scots actors Ewan McGregor and Siobhan Redmond, who were also awarded the OBE.
