AN ELDERLY female pedestrian has reportedly died in this morning's accident in Dalgety Bay.

It's understood she died at the scene after being involved in an accident with a Fife Council van at around 10.20am on Moray Way North.

The Fife Divison of Police Scotland would not confirm these details within the last few minutes but said there would be further information this afternoon.

Part of the road has been screened from view and police are carrying out door to door enquiries after the accident.

Officers are seeking information about the accident, rnext to the bus stop and close to the roundabout at Regents Way. Motorists have also been advised by police to avoid travelling to the town if at all possible.

A Fife Council vehicle is inside the taped off area and a tarpaulin has been erected to shield the scene from public view, with eyewitnesses reporting eight police cars, two fire engines and a CID presence at the incident.

Grant Ward, head of leisure and cultural services, said, "I can confirm that one of our vehicles was involved in a road traffic accident earlier today.

"The incident is the subject of an ongoing police investigation so, unfortunately, I'm not in a position to offer any further comment at this stage."

A statement from Police Scotland said, "Officers from the Road Policing Unit attached to Fife Division of Police Scotland can confirm they are currently attending a serious road traffic accident in Moray Way North, near to Regents Way, Dalgety Bay."

Inspector Brenda Sinclair, who is in charge of the unit, said, "We were called to an incident around 10.30am and are currently dealing with it.

"As a result, a number of roads have had to be closed in the area and I would urge motorists to avoid travelling to Dalgety Bay if possible.

"More details will be issued as soon as possible."

A spokesperson for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service confirmed that two fire engines from Dunfermline were called to the incident at 10.23am, and are currently still at the scene along with police and ambulance services.
