FIFE’S new transport interchange, Halbeath Park and Ride will open on 25th November.
The £10 million facility located just off the M90, to the east of Dunfermline, will support the new bridge, Queensferry Crossing, and build on the success of the Ferrytoll Park & Ride, further enhancing transport links between Fife and Central Scotland.
Halbeath Park & Ride has more than 1000 car-parking spaces, six bus stances, heated waiting area with toilets, seats, vending machine and staffed supervisor’s office.
Commuters will be able to park and catch a regular bus service to Edinburgh, Edinburgh Airport, Glasgow and Dunfermline among other destinations.
There are dedicated bus lanes on the M90, prioritising public transport between Halbeath and Edinburgh, making it a viable option for commuters into the city.
Transport Scotland has funded this project and Stirling-based contractors, Robertson, carried out construction.
The site will be managed and maintained by Fife Council and through a partnership agreement, staffed by Stagecoach.
Executive spokesperson for environment and transportation, Councillor Pat Callaghan, said, “Ferrytoll Park & Ride has been such a great success.
"It is often full and another park & ride facility will ease this congestion and be of great benefit to Fifers.
“Halbeath Park & Ride will have regular bus services to Edinburgh and Glasgow every 20 minutes and into Dunfermline every 10 minutes.
"This is a great service offering a more sustainable and cost effective travel option.” Andrew Jarvis, managing director, Stagecoach East Scotland, said, “The opening of the park and ride site at Halbeath has allowed us to develop a number of bus and coach routes in the area and as a result many local timetables will change on 25th November.
“All Fife to Glasgow coach routes will call at the Park and Ride offering an easy interchange and a 20-minute frequency to the West.
"We’re also launching a new route to Edinburgh, running through the west end into the city centre, this new X52 route will run from Halbeath P&R and Ferrytoll P&R.
"Improvements to other local routes will provide further connections for the Jet 747 to Edinburgh Airport, extra journeys into Edinburgh on the X59 route and improved connections to/from Cowdenbeath, Kelty and Kinross.
“We’ll also be launching eight larger, brand-new luxury coaches to operate on the X27 route with more seating, air conditioning, reclining leather seats and free wi-fi access on board.” For more information about Halbeath Park & Ride, the bus services available at the new facility, and downloadable timetables, go to www.halbeath.org
