Labour retained the Cowdenbeath seat as Alex Rowley swept to victory with a huge majority of nearly 5500 votes.

Mr Rowley, who is Lochs councillor and leader of Fife Council, took 11,192 votes with the SNP's Natalie McGarry in second with 5704 and Tory candidate Dave Dempsey third with 1893.

The other four candidates lost their deposits: UKIP's Denise Baykal on 610, Jade Holden on 425, Stuart Graham of The Victims Final Right Party on 187 and James Trolland of the Scottish Democratic Alliance on 51.

There were 21 ballot papers rejected.
