BRITISH Transport Police (BTP) has launched an investigation and condemned the actions of a group of football supporters who sang sectarian songs as they travelled on a train between Kirkcaldy and Edinburgh on Sunday.

Around 11.40am, the group of between four and six men boarded coach D of the 09.47 Aberdeen to London service at Kirkcaldy and are reported to have created a threatening and distressing environment to other passengers until they got off the train at Edinburgh Waverley at 12.20pm.

The only description of the men available is that they were late-20s and wearing football colours.

It is believed they were attending the Ramsdens Cup final between Raith Rovers and Rangers.

CCTV footage from on the train and at both stations will be reviewed in an attempt to identify those involved.

In the meantime Constable Christopher Sutherland is asking anyone with information to get in touch with him.

He said, “This was a busy service with families and children on board and there is no excuse for this sort of behaviour.

"The group’s actions are educating the younger generation that this type of behaviour is in some way the acceptable.

"However, it will not be tolerated anywhere or on public transport and I am appealing for anyone who was on the train or at either station and witnessed this unwelcome behaviour to come forward.”
