FIFE police have warned retail and commercial staff to watch out for an ongoing scam known as 'Ringing The Changes' following an incident on Friday.

Two men entered the Blacketyside Farm Shop in Largo Road, Lundin Links and asked to exchange money.

During the transaction, distraction and confusion tactics were used, resulting in the pair leaving the premises with an additional three-figure sum of cash.

The suspects are both described as being of Arab appearance, around 30-years-old with short black hair.

Sergeant Jim Davenport said, "We want all retailers and their staff, including employees at post office, petrol stations and banks to be on their guard for this scam.

‘‘The pressures of serving in a busy premises and the desire to provide customer satisfaction can offer the ideal set of circumstances for these fraudsters, who look to profit on hard working staff by using distraction tactics.

‘Be suspicious of any customer requesting large denomination notes to be changed, or who wishes to cancel transactions once cash is on the counter.

"If you are faced with such a scenario you should try, if possible, to call on a colleague for assistance.

"Ultimately, if you have any doubts or suspicions, refuse the request."
