That's the urgent warning from Fife Licensing Board who say the businesses face not being able to sell alcohol in the busiest period - the run-up to Christmas and the New Year - if they don't act now. The board said that, out of 1817 personal licence holders who are required to complete a vital training course by the end of next month, only 401 have done so.

To operate legally and comply with national regulations, licensed premises must have a manager who holds a personal licence, in addition that manager must be on site if the premises are open after 1am.

All personal licence holders who received their licence on 1st September 2009 have to complete refresher training by 31st August and they must then inform the board by 30th November.

Fail to do this and their personal licence will automatically be revoked by the board.
