A FILM exploring Fife's mining heritage has been nominated for a top accolade in this year's National Lottery Awards.

'The Happy Lands' tells the tale of the Kingdom's mining community during the 1926 and has been shortlisted along with six other projects for the Best Arts Project award.

Directed by Robert Rae, the film, set in the village of Carhill, is inspired by true stories and follows the journey of one mining community as they fall into labour conflict with the Kingdom Coal Company.

It was filmed across Fife and used many locals as main characters and extras.

Last year it was shortlisted for Cineworld Audience Award in the Scottish BAFTA's and is now in with a chance of winning a £2000 prize and the chance to feature on a BBC One show in September.

The nominated projects will be voted for by the public and voting closes at midnight on Wednesday 23rd July. To cast your vote, go to www.lotterygoodcauses.org.uk/awards.
