A FORMER teacher at a Kelty primary school in the 1940s has celebrated her 100th birthday.

Mary Lacey Duncan, nee Angus, enjoyed her 100th birthday party at Erigmore House, Birnam, Dunkeld, on 26th July in the company of some 84 guests composed of family and friends and entertained by the Balaclava Pipe Band who are associated with the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders at Stirling.

Mary was a much-loved English teacher at Oakfield JS School at Kelty from the early ‘40s until the school closed in the ‘60s, and latterly at Balwearie High School in Kirkcaldy.

Mary welcomed many of her old pupils to her party including Bobby Lees, John Lynas, Agnes Arnott, Janet Laird, Robin Brannan, Cathy Cordery and Andrew Duncan.

During the champagne reception Mary was assisted by her great nieces, Chloe Kent as 'Balloon Girl', and Elena Wroth as 'Flower Girl', and two great-nephews, Peter Kent and Luke Wroth as ‘Keepers of the Quaich’. This was followed by dinner in the House and finished off with a rousing ceilidh.
