A NURSING and Midwifery Council hearing has started in the case of a NHS Fife nurse alleged to have worked while unfit for duty.

The allegations against Susan Dryburgh are that whilst a registered nurse employed by NHS Fife at the Rowan Walk Respite Unit for the disabled, Cowdenbeath, she worked while unfit to do so on 21st November 2010 at approximately 2pm.

It is further alleged that as a registered nurse employed at the Victoria Hospital, Kirkcaldy, she reported for duty whilst unfit for work and/or smelling of alcohol on 11th June 2012.

It was also alleged that in light of any or all of the above, her fitness to practise was impaired by reason of misconduct.

On 17th February 2011 she appeared before Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court and was convicted of driving a motor vehicle after consuming excess alcohol. She was sentenced to a fine of £500 and banned from driving for 21 months.

It is alleged that between 17th February and 18th April 2011, she did not inform NHS Fife that she had been convicted of a criminal offence and that her conduct was dishonest in that she knew, or should have known, that she should disclose that information.

It is further claimed that in the light of this her fitness to practise was impaired by reason of the conviction.

The hearing in Edinburgh began on Tuesday and is schedule to run until Friday.
