THE Archbishop of Canterbury, the Most Rev Justin Welby, paid a visit to St Columba’s Church, Aberdour on Tuesday during a two-day visit to Scotland.

The Archbishop joined the congregations of Aberdour, Burntisland and Inverkeithing for a brief act of worship in the church as part of a visit intended to encourage a new initiative known as the Fife Church Graft.

This is an initiative between the ABI churches (St Columba’s in Aberdour, St Serf’s in Burntisland and St Peter’s in Inverkeithing) and St Paul’s and St George’s in Edinburgh. The main objective is to establish a Contemporary Family Service – Connecting Friends, Family and Faith – to help the local population connect with one another.

The Archbishop then met a wider group involved from the community at St Fillan’s.

The Bishop of St Andrews, Dunkeld and Dunblane and Primus of the Scottish Episcopal Church, the Most Rev David Chillingworth said, “The Scottish Episcopal Church was delighted to welcome Archbishop Justin Welby and his wife, Caroline, to Scotland. Archbishop Justin’s visit to Scotland was part of a series of visits to the provinces of the worldwide Anglican Communion.

“Archbishop Justin has established reconciliation as one of his priorities in ministry. He is seeking ways in which churches which live in an extraordinary diversity of contexts – geographical, economic, social and cultural – can express visible unity in Christ.”
