IT'S A long way away from the icy tundra of the polar regions, but Dunfermline will be given a little glimpse of the life of an explorer next week when a renowned visitor comes to give a talk.
Børge Ousland, famous Norwegian polar explorer, is visiting Dunfermline as part of the Royal Scottish Geographical Society's 130 year anniversary. The long-standing society will also be celebrating its 5000th talk in Edinburgh next week, with Mr Ousland as the speaker, but Fifers will get a sneak peek the day before.
Mr Ousland said, “As a polar explorer, speaking for RSGS is almost a rite of passage that sees you join the great adventurers and explorers of history, it is an honour to have my work recognised like this.” The talk is part of RSGS's public talks programme, Inspiring People, which showcases the stories of academics, explorers and travellers, and also aims to inspire audiences to learn more about the world they live in.
Mr Ousland will give his talk, Against All Odds: Adventures in Polar Exploration, at 7.30pm on Wednesday 3rd December at St Andrew's Erskine Church of Scotland Centre, Robertson Road, Dunfermline.
Everybody is welcome, with tickets costing £8 (free to RSGS members).
