DUNFERMLINE shoppers got more than they bargained for on Saturday as they were treated to surprise performances from Carnegie Youth Theatre.

The group of teens sang and danced to a selection of musical numbers in the event area of the Kingsgate Shopping Centre outside Debenhams.

The event, called ‘Do it Their Way’, was to promote the youth theatre’s next production of West Side Story.

Kingsgate Shopping Centre assistant boss Karen Davidson said, “They were really brilliant on Saturday!

“The flashmob was amazing – the performers were coming down the escalator and coming from the entrances of shops and people were really taken aback by it! They performed lots of songs from different musicals – it was very good and people were enjoying themselves.

“The youth theatre attracted a big audience and there were a lot of families there to see their children or brothers and sisters perform.

“Shoppers also stayed longer in the centre and that is always a good thing.” Carnegie Youth Theatre’s upcoming production will be showing at the Carnegie Hall between 26th and 28th February and will tell the landmark musical drama where Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet is transported to modern-day New York City as two young idealistic lovers find themselves caught between warring street gangs.
