SUPERMARKET staff across Dunfermline and West Fife can breathe a sigh of relief as the five Tesco stores in the area escaped closure.

Earlier this month, Tesco announced that it would be closing 43 stores across the UK due to a fall in business, and concerns quickly rose that some West Fife stores could face the axe. Three of them are in Dunfermline itself, including the newly-opened store on Carnegie Drive, while there are also two outlets in Rosyth and Dalgety Bay.

However although four Scottish stores are facing the axe – including Kirkcaldy's superstore – none of the West Fife stores will be affected, according to a statement that Tesco made today.
