TWO West Fife men who promised their friend and brother suffering with cancer that they’d shave their hair off are going under the clippers for charity tomorrow (Friday).

Cairneyhill Primary School janitor James Wood (41), of Dunfermline and Grant Fyfe (42), of Inverkeithing both decided to do this to support Mark Fyfe (45), friend and brother to James and Grant respectively, as he goes through treatment for cancer.

The pair have been raising money for Macmillan Cancer Support through sponsors for the head shave which will take place in the morning at Cairneyhill Primary School in front of pupils and staff.

James said, “I have known Mark for at least 26 years. He has been a colleague in the past working at different schools and is my best friend.

“The idea of a head shave came up when Grant made a comment about Mark’s hair and Mark said that he wouldn’t have it for long because of his treatment. So I said that when he lost his hair I would shave mine off!

“Later that night, Grant messaged me on Facebook asking if I was serious and if I wanted to raise money for Macmillan by doing a head shave so we have started raising money.

"I don’t know the total yet because I have donation sheets all over the place but I know that I have around £300 and Grant has about the same I think.” Mark, of Islay Road, said, “They are both brave laddies – because it’s cold out there just now! I would know because I have lost my hair through treatment.

“I found out last August that I had a cancerous tumour in my oesophagus and I am due to go in for a major operation on 24th February.

“I am so proud of the two of them doing this for Macmillan because they have helped myself and my family a lot through this time.

“I will be there on Friday to see it all!”
