Mark Maclennan (30), from Bath, assaulted her over a three year period in Stirling, Dunblane and Dunfermline when she was aged 12 to 15.

He was also convicted of raping a three-year-old at an Inverness-shire nursery between August 2012 and May 2013.

Maclennan was found guilty of having thousands of images of child porn but a charge of sexually abusing a girl when she was aged between four and five was not proven.

The trial took place at the High Court in Glasgow last week and he was found guilty by a jury on Friday.

Judge John Morris QC told him, “Given what you have been convicted of a prison sentence is almost inevitable.” He remanded Maclennan in custody and deferred sentence until 27th February at the High Court in Edinburgh for background reports.

The judge told the jury, “This has been a very unpleasant case for all those involved.” The inquiry into Maclennan was sparked after the three-year-old told his mother in graphic terms that he had been raped by him.

As a result of the publicity generated by the inquiry, a woman came forward to say she had been abused by Maclennan while he was working as a chaperone at a drama school she attended.

The girl, who is now a 19-year-old student, said the abuse began when she was aged 12 and Maclennan was fitting her for a costume for a panto at the MacRobert Centre in Stirling.

“He said one of the measurements he needed was between my legs for which he required me to remove my clothing.

“He asked me to remove my trousers and later my underwear as well. I found it odd,” she told the jury.

The measuring tape was held against her legs and private parts and she said, “I was very uncomfortable.

“I was frightened and embarrassed.” She said Maclennan had sexually abused her on a number of occasions after giving her lifts from her home in Dunblane to amateur dramatics, and also touched her inappropriately during a costume fitting for the Mother Goose panto.

The last occasion that he abused her was during rehearsals for Billy Elliot in Dunfermline.

He threaded the microphone through her underwear, removed her lower clothing and touched her private parts.

The court heard that she did not report any of the alleged incidents to police until 2013, although she said she told her mother when she was 16.

Maclennan, who has been working in Bath as a carer, showed no emotion when the verdict was announced.
