Between Monday 9th and Sunday 15th March 2015 library visitors back to the early 20th century, as well as giving them the chance to dig deep and uncover their hidden histories.

An exploration of the effects of the conflict in Fife, and beyond, featuring talks, family activities and workshops, A Week to Remember will provide insight into the many aspects of the Great War for visitors of all ages.

There will be a diverse range of events to participate in, from The Red and Green Menace: Subversion in Scotland in World War One – a lecture by noted historian Dr. David Ritchie covering topics as wide-ranging as temperance and the Irish War of Independence – to Shipwright Science, a workshop in which children can learn hands-on science and build their own boat!

Budding historians can dip their toe into family history research, using the resources of Fife Archives and Fife Museums, at our Family History Workshop, or get involved in local history at The University of Edinburgh workshop on Scotland’s War Project. The project takes the form of a growing website collecting local stories and images to build a picture of Fife’s War – and they want your help! If you have material you think others might be interested in, please do come along to share your story and find out more.

The week finishes with a bang at our Free Family Weekend on Saturday 14th and Sunday 15th March. All the family can get involved with craft workshops, object handing, a mobile museum and will have the chance to meet a First World War soldier.

Colin McLean, head of the HLF in Scotland, said,“The impact of the First World War was far reaching, touching and shaping every corner of the UK and beyond. The Heritage Lottery Fund has already invested more than £60million in projects – large and small - that are marking this global Centenary; with our new small grants programme, we are enabling even more communities like those involved in Dunfermline to explore the continuing legacy of this conflict and help local young people in particular to broaden their understanding of how it has shaped our modern world.” For further details of any of the events visit www.onfife.com or contact Duloch Library on 01383 602208.
