FIF COUNCIL plans to build a playpark in Dunfermline have been held up after local residents said they didn’t want it.

And councillors at last week’s west planning committee have now agreed to visit the proposed site in Pitcorthie’s Thorn Grove before taking a decision.

The project – already awarded £30,000 from the council – attracted a flood of objections from neighbours who feared the playpark would be a magnet for trouble. A letter of objection on behalf of 30 residents was sent to the Press and said, “Most of us have lived here for over 25 years and are witness to years of anti-social behaviour associated with the area.

“It is mainly due to the efforts of the long-term residents who fought hard that we enjoy a quieter life than before.” The residents said it was unclear what age of children the playpark would be for and that it was “strange” that money had been allocated by the council before the committee had reached a decision on the planning application. Another letter said that “the alcohol-consuming teenagers who have previously blighted this area will soon find this new ‘howff’ and appreciate the picnic table supplied”. The committee decided a site visit would be made to “enable members to better assess the suitability of the location”.
