A Transport Scotland spokesman said, “We’re pleased to say the first family day of 2015 was very successful with an excellent turnout of over 400 visitors to the contact and education centre during the day.” Families were tasked with making a replica of the cable-stay crossing, building a deck section and designing a bridge that could hold the most weight.

Towers were constructed out of wooden blocks and pictures drawn of the Forth in Spring 2017 – when the ‘big’ £1.4billion Queensferry Crossing will be fully operational – while different bridge types were put together and quizzes undertaken.

The first event took place last Friday and the spokesman added, “Project staff were on hand to discuss the project and answer questions, which came thick and fast from children and adults alike!

“Not surprisingly, our visitors were keen to find out all sorts of information about what they can see being constructed out in the Forth, such as the current height of towers, how high they will be when complete and what the process will be to put the deck and cables in place.

“We’re committed to ensuring we engage as many people as possible in the construction of what really is a once-in-a-lifetime project being built right here in Scotland.

“The family days are just one part of that commitment as we also have an extensive programme of school visits and presentations and the exhibition is open on Saturdays throughout most of the year.

“Our project website also plays a vital part and we have recently launched the ‘frame the bridge’ selfie campaign and also an extensive, map-based picture, video and webcam gallery which shows progress right across the many different elements of the project.” All age groups can come along to the CEC – just across the Forth Road Bridge on the South Queensferry side – tomorrow (Friday) from 10am to 4pm to take part in activities, view the models and discuss the project with staff.

The latest event in the Forth Replacement Crossing presentation series is on Friday 24th April when there will be an opportunity to hear from project engineers about various aspects of the construction of the bridge and its connecting roads.
