MICHAEL MOFFAT says he is looking forward to this weekend’s international break – as it is the first time he has been able to take advantage of it!

The 29-year-old netted the winning goal at Stranraer on Saturday to keep momentum going for the Pars before their campaign takes a backseat this weekend with Scotland tackling world champions Germany.

And while the former Ayr United hitman would have been delighted to play another game this weekend, he told Press Sport, “It’s better than working like I have been the last few times – having time off is something that’s new to me! I’m getting used to it and is something that I’ve enjoyed as I was able to head down the road for a couple of days, chill out and do the rounds visiting family. But the missus and the dog’s up living with me here now which is good because you want to be as happy off the pitch as you are on it.

“You can look at the break both ways. Obviously, if you have a wee bit of momentum then you want to keep playing, but on the other hand there’s been a few of the boys who have been playing with knocks and niggles so it’s a good chance to give everyone a wee rest and get back. Hopefully by the time the next game comes we’ll have more options.” Moffat’s all-action style has won him many admirers in the Pars support and he took his tally for the season to three with a cool finish at Stair Park. His partnership with recent signing Gozie Ugwu is also beginning to bear fruit, with the duo scoring all five of the Pars’ goals in the previous two league matches.

Moffat continued, “He was lacking a wee bit of match fitness when he came but he’s been working hard and you can see how much he has improved. He seems to be getting better with each game as his fitness improves and not many teams in this league will cope with him when he’s on his game. He holds it up well and is a good outball to have when you’re under pressure and he’s started to chip in with a few goals now as well.

“That’s two or three games in a row now we’ve played and it maybe takes a couple of games to get to know each other. You click quicker with some players than others but its been working well together so far and it’s good to get a wee partnership going.

“It was a good game and good to get the win on Saturday as it’s a tough place to go. Not many teams will go there and win but it’s a case of us being consistent if we want to get out of the league. You need to be on top form every week or you’ll get found out, but the boys know that and we’ll look forward to it for the rest of the season.”
