TWO of Hollywood’s biggest stars are set to grace the Pars’ very own red carpet for next month’s Jock Stein charity match.

Former Wimbledon skipper Vinnie Jones, who has starred on the big screen in films such as Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels and Mean Machine, will line up for the Dunfermline Athletic legends, managed by David Moyes, on 6th September and square up to X-Men star James McAvoy (right), who will pull on the green and white hoops of Celtic.

The game at East End Park has been arranged to mark the 30th anniversary of the death of Stein, who managed both clubs, during a 1986 World Cup qualifier in Wales while in charge of Scotland.

Proceeds will be split between The Pars Foundation and the Celtic FC Foundation and the involvement of Jones will see him team-up with Pars heroes including Stevie Crawford, Andrius Skerla, Marco Ruitenbeek, Andy Tod, Hamish French, Stewart Petrie, Martin Hardie and Ivo den Bieman.

The ex-Wales international was best known on the field for two spells with Wimbledon, winning the 1988 FA Cup with the ‘Crazy Gang’ when they famously shocked Liverpool at Wembley.

Other roles in film have included appearances in X Men: The Last Stand, Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted, and in the 2013 action thriller, Escape Plan, where he co-starred alongside Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Meanwhile McAvoy, who has also starred in blockbusters such as ‘Atonement’ and ‘Wanted’, will line-up for a Celtic side that includes fellow actor Martin Compston, former Athletic trio Jackie McNamara, Simon Donnelly and Mark Burchill, Rab Douglas, Tosh McKinlay and Stillian Petrov.

The charity fund-raiser will allow supporters of both clubs to pay tribute to Stein, who led each to some of their greatest triumphs.

Appointed as Pars boss in March 1960, he saved the club from relegation before leading them to their first Scottish Cup success a year later when they defeated Celtic in a replay at Hampden.

He took Dunfermline into Europe for the first time, masterminding famous wins over Everton and Valencia, before moving to Hibernian in 1964.

A year later, he was appointed Celtic manager and, during a trophy-laden 13 years, led the Parkhead side to their finest hour in 1967 when they won the European Cup.

Tickets for the match, which kicks off at 2pm on Sunday 6th September, are available at the East End Park ticket office and club shop, by calling 01383 745909 or at www.parsonline.co.uk. They are priced £12 for adults and £6 for concessions.
