GLASGOW Central Station has enforced a strict booze ban to prevent another Troon beach incident as extra police on horses are deployed to the area.

Warnings have been placed throughout the station as hundreds of people are expected to flock to Ayrshire to enjoy the warm weather.

Titled ‘ALCOHOL BAN’, the notices read: “Heading to Ayrshire over the next few days?

“Services to and from Ayr and all intermediate stations will be subject to a drinking ban and no alcohol will be permitted on these routes.”

Ayrshire Police Division said officers have been sent to beaches and transport hubs in Ayrshire this weekend.

During periods of warm weather when increased numbers of visitors are anticipated at the coast, Police Scotland said: “Additional officers have been deployed in the area, including the mounted branch.

“These patrols will continue and officers will take robust action where necessary to deal with those intent on causing disorder.

“Anyone with specific concerns is encouraged to speak with officers on patrol or to call us on 101 or to call 999 in an emergency.”

The crackdown comes after Troon beach was invaded by thousands of young people as most of Scotland enjoyed good weather in July last year.

Police confiscated hundreds of bottles of booze after massive groups of teenagers descended on the sleepy town for a party.

As police struggled to bring the chaos under control, locals told of seeing several young people being taken away in ambulances, with overindulgence in alcohol the suspected cause.
