A KINCARDINE man became aggressive with shop staff when they refused to sell him alcohol.

Gary Rankine went to buy drink with another man but Co-op employees believed his friend was underage.

Rankine, 25, of Kincairne Street, previously admitted on January 3 at Co-Op Food, High Street, Kincardine, he behaved in a threatening or abusive manner likely to cause fear or alarm in that he did shout and swear.

At Dunfermline Sheriff Court, depute fiscal Carrie Stevens said that at about 9.45pm two shop staff were working when the accused came into the shop.

He attempted to buy alcohol, but shop staff thought he was purchasing it for someone else.

Rankine became aggressive with the employees and he left the shop but still stood outside.

As they came to look outside he continued to act aggressive towards staff and the police were called.

Defence solicitor John Bain told the court that when his client tried to purchase the alcohol staff wouldn't allow him because they perceived his co-accused was under age.

"His friend was nearly 23," Mr Bain said.

"He accepts he reacted wrongly when trying to explain."

Sheriff Craig McSherry made Rankine subject to community payback order with 125 hours of unpaid work.
