ST JOSEPH’S Primary School in Kelty have inspired their community to make a generous donation to Benarty Foodbank.

More than 100kg of food items were handed over and villagers from across Kelty helped the school with their contributions.

Parents and children also collected boys’ and girls’ presents to help those who are struggling at Christmas.

Maura Haddow, from the Parent School Association (PSA), said: “We helped the foodbank at Easter time and had a good response, so we thought we could do it again at Christmas.

“People from the community brought in gifts for boys and girls and lots of types of food.

“Parents and children were generous but we also had people from the wider community donate too. It was a great thing for the school to do and we hope to start doing this regularly now twice a year.

“The foodbank spoke to the children about how the items would support those who needed them and how we can help others in our community.”

Jonathan Astill, from the foodbank, paid tribute to everyone who had helped.

“Benarty Foodbank really appreciates the support of the public,” he said.

“We cannot do what we do without their support. A big thank you to all involved because it will make a huge difference.”
