THE devastated family of a Cairneyhill teenager whose body was found in a park earlier this week has paid tribute to their "beautiful wee Hazel".

Hazel North (19), who was reported missing on Friday, was found in Dean Park in Kilmarnock on Monday.

She had not been seen by her family for nearly three weeks, and last had contact on 4th March when she told her sister she was going to Kilmarnock to meet a friend.

In a statement released yesterday (Wednesday), her family said, "We are devastated by the tragic loss of our beautiful wee Hazel, who was so suddenly taken away from us.

"No words can ever express our feelings at this sad time and although we will never see her mature into a beautiful woman, we will always remember her fun loving smile and energetic personality.

"We take comfort from all the sincere messages of sympathy from all who have spared a thought for our wee Hazel.

“We would also like to thank everyone, who has shown their concern at this inconsolable time for us.

"The family thanks the police for all their man hours, effort and professionalism.

"We would also like to thank the family liaison officers who were involved right from the start with their excellent support at this time." John James Davis (25) appeared at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court on Tuesday accused of Hazel's murder.

He also faces charges of assault to injury, assault to severe injury and attempting to defeat the ends of justice.

Davis made no plea or declaration. He was remanded in custody and his next court appearance is expected to be on 3rd April.
