BUZZ Lightyear, Minnie Mouse and Peter Pan were seen on the streets of Townhill at the weekend as the village celebrated its gala on Saturday.

This year’s event, which had a ‘Disney’ and ‘Flower Power’ theme, attracted several well-known cartoon princesses, including Cinderella and Elsa from ‘Frozen’, Mr Potato Head, and two blokes dressed as the Ugly Sisters.

The gala parade, led by the Dunfermline Pipe Band and Lothian and Borders Accordion Band, also included ‘Mr Bean’ and the community council, who came as hippies with chair Ronnie Cowan as a giant rabbit.

At Townhill Park, On Pointe Performing Arts, Lorraine Taggart School of Dance and Vicki Robertson’s drumming group put on displays, and there were cake and candy stalls, a tombola, races, tug-of-war, fairground rides and inflatables to keep everyone entertained.

Gala chair Gaynor Sands said, “The winds were absolutely horrendous but nothing got blown away, everything was pegged down very well.

“We had positive feedback and everything seemed to go well.

“The fairground rides went down absolutely fantastic, the kids were there all day going on them.

“We had an ‘unclimbable ladder’ challenge – nobody managed to climb it although quite a lot gave it a go!

“It went down very well despite the weather and everybody seemed to enjoy it.”
