PUPILS AT Wellwood Primary School in Dunfermline said a bittersweet goodbye to their school ahead of its closure today (Friday) by sending 138 balloons into the air to mark each year of teaching.
An open evening was held on Tuesday in order to give former and current pupils, parents and staff one last chance to look around the school and share their memories before the doors finally close on Friday.
It was a night of mixed feelings for those attending, with fond memories and happy times set against the sadness of the primary school’s closure.
The evening ended with a piper leading the children to the playground to release 138 balloons into the night sky. Each balloon released marked a year of learning at Wellwood, with the piper setting the theme for the historical community event.
Principal teacher Jane Adams said, “This is a sad time for the whole community. However the evening was a fitting tribute to mark the end of an era.
“Thank you to all those who contributed to the night to make it special.”
