ABERDOUR, Newmills and Limekilns will be the next to get fibre broadband in West Fife.

Around 80,000 homes across Scotland will have access to fibre services at speeds of up to 80Mbps1 as part of the $410million Digital Scotland Superfast Broadband programme.

The first of the 67 locations in 13 different areas will benefit from faster internet speeds from Spring 2015.

The engineering rollout will be delivered by BT’s local network business Openreach.

Deputy leader of Fife Council Lesley Laird, spokesperson for Economy and Planning said, “It’s great to hear even more Fife households and businesses will be able to benefit from the Programme and it’s even more welcome when one of the areas to benefit (Aberdour) is in my ward.

“Fife Council is investing £2.8 million in this project because we know the benefits faster broadband can bring.

“As well as helping Fifers access a range of council services it gives local companies large and small the chance to do business more effectively nationally and internationally all of which helps us on our journey of making Fife the best place to do business.” Brendan Dick, BT Scotland director, said, “The arrival of fibre broadband in these latest communities will be great news for local homes and businesses.

“In a few months’ time local people will be streaming, shopping, learning and sharing faster than ever before.”
