FOUR SETS of twins who all started at Inzievar Primary School in the same year reunited last week for a tour around their old school, 38 years after they all met for the first time.

One set of twins might be double trouble but Inzievar in Oakley had to deal with four starting at the same time back in August 1976. Michelle and Scott Barrie, Mark and Kevin Wood, Tracey (now McAulley) and Thomas Martin and Shirley (now Devlin) and Brenda (now Wilson) Allan were the talk of the village when the eight youngsters first went to school, even getting pictured by the Press.

All these years later, the twins decided to meet up again and take a tour around the new school. Some of them hadn’t seen each other since primary school and Brenda (43), who now lives in Carnock, spoke to the Press about their unique reunion.

“Two years ago, Mark posted the Dunfermline Press photo from 1976 on Facebook and tagged me in it, so I tagged Michelle and Tracey,” she explained.

“Mark is based in Germany now as he’s in the army and about three or four months ago he said he’d be coming home and that it would be good to get together. So I made a Facebook page for the twins reunion and invited Mark, Michelle and Tracey and got them to invite their twins.” Brenda was “gutted” to miss out on the tour of the school after being called up for jury duty but the rest of the twins loved the experience. “Everybody said it was fantastic and the effort the school put into the tour was absolutely brilliant,” she said. “When I came out of court I met up with everyone and we had dinner and drinks. It was really good to see them.

“I hadn’t seen Tracey in 10 years and I hadn’t seen Thomas since 1980 – they both left in Primary 3. I hadn’t seen Kevin since 1984 when we left high school but the weirdest thing was it was just like being back at primary school! You wouldn’t have thought it had been 38 years. There was no awkwardness, we just swapped stories about family, jobs, and old school memories.” Remembering back to those school days, Brenda admits that she and her sister were the troublemakers. “Me and my twin were the brats!” she said, laughing. “We were the only identical ones and they gave us badges with our names on them which we kept swapping. Then they sewed them onto our clothes so we went into the toilets and swapped them too!” After the reunion it was time for the four sets of twins to go their separate ways again but Brenda is sure they will meet up before another 38 years have passed.
